Visiually appealing and very well made. I have a question. I guess this table has been used for years now. Is there a problem like tipping over? If not, what is the ratio between the base and the top lengths across? Thank you

It is certainly a pretty looking joint but,as I'm sure you realise, the peg significantly weakens what remains of the post after mortising. An alternative, actually used historically in Britain to join a collar to the principal rafters in e.g. a sling brace truss is where you cut a reverse taper on the underside of the tenon(like half a dovetail) with the corresponding shape at the bottom of the mortice, then enlarge the mortice above the top of the tenon in a tapered way(e.g. a void going from 1.5" to 2") to provide the clearance needed for assembly, then drive in a correspondingly sized wedge. The wedge is roughsawn, for friction and not planed. The tenon is inserted into the mortice in the upper region of the space, then drops down to lock the 'dovetail' which is then secured by driving in the wedge above the collar(where it will only be seen by high altitude spiders).

When I think of ancient times when they came up with intricate joints like this and there was a 16 feet beam and this joint was needed, how you couldn't mess things up, cuz well, you didn't have that many beams to just replace them over and over.
